SEO & Socmed Strategy for Baby Clothing in NZ

Three things I love about this project:

  • As a freelancer, I love SEO.
  • As a marketer, I love Strategy.
  • As a mom, I love baby clothes.

For some reason, I attract projects that are aligned with what I love. And for that, I am grateful.

In this case, study, let’s discuss how to create an effective strategy.

Project Background:

I found this client in Upwork in January 2021, saw her job post, and applied. She’s interested in my service so we scheduled a discovery call.

The first thing I did was to get a clear understanding of her baby clothes shop needs and goals. Questions like: What is her website and how old is her domain? Who are her target customers? What makes her product/service unique from competitors? How much is her marketing/SEO budget? What are her top 3 SEO goals?

Like any other passionate startup, she sent her these:

Project Challenges:

  • One month in the industry
  • No clear marketing roadmap
  • Wants to rank 1st page and get sales in Google
  • No social media presence

For startup e-commerce shops, these challenges are inevitable and overwhelming. Sometimes business owners jump right into creating businesses without mapping out their marketing campaign. That’s normal, but not okay!

Yes, we’re passionate but we also need to be strategic.

Before you create a business, you should have a clear roadmap on how to market your products and services. Identify the ins and outs of your industry, before penetrating it.

For this organic baby clothes shop in New Zealand, it’s not too late. She’s a month old in this business so she can still create a great foundation for her branding and marketing.

Challenge 1: No clear marketing roadmap

Solution: Do a SWOT Analysis and map out a strategy.

A SWOT Analysis will identify the brands Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Now, this isn’t the roadmap but it gives you a clear picture of your business. Here;s a screenshot of my SEO & Digital Marketing Strategy deck:

Challenge 2: Wants to rank 1st page and get sales in Google

Solution: Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO takes time specially for competitive keywords in ecommerce. So you need to target your keyword strategies well.

There’s more to SEO than just merely putting the keywords. You don’t magically rank overnight by just putting your target keywords. SEO success takes strategy, consistency and patience.

Here are some strategies we did:

Note that SEO Strategies may vary depending on the client’s goal, competition, keywords, and niche. The strategies listed here are rule of thumb suggestions.

Challenge: No social media presence

Solution: Professional branding for Facebook & Instagram

First, we identify that her target audience are usually hanging out on Facebook and Instagram. TikTok was just getting started in the year 2021, so there’s no parents hanging out there, only Gen Zs.

Here’s another sneak peak of our Facebook & Instagram audit with competitor’s side-by-side:

I also did some graphics and created her Instagram Highlight Covers. So cute!

Client Feedback

She’s happy with the quick reply and FREE SEO Audit.
